Our Story

Our Mission

Street Savvy Cat Rescue: because every streetwise feline deserves a second chance—nine lives just aren’t always enough! We’re in the business of rescuing and rolling out the red carpet for outdoor cats who, for one reason or another, aren’t exactly prime candidates for a cozy lap life. Whether they’re sporting a few extra years, have special medical needs, or just prefer the great outdoors, we make sure they get the care, chow, and meds they need to live their best alley-cat lives. Because even the scrappiest street cats deserve VIP treatment!

Meet the Team

Meet the devoted duo behind Street Savvy Cat Rescue! Fueled by compassion (and caffeine), this small but mighty team works tirelessly to rescue, care for, and advocate for Tampa’s most street-savvy felines. Get to know the hearts behind the paws below.

Our Focus

Nick Medicine.png

Medical Care Support

We’re like the emergency room, rehab center, and luxury spa all rolled into one—just for street cats who play by their own rules! From life-saving surgeries to custom-tailored treatments, we provide top-tier medical care to those rugged outdoor felines who can’t exactly charm their way into a traditional home. Whether it’s a tricky health condition, a few too many battle scars, or just the wear and tear of street life, we make sure they get the care they need to keep strutting their stuff—because every cat deserves to feel like the top cat, no matter their medical chart!

Nick Eating.png

Nutrition Programs

At Street Savvy Cat Rescue, we’re basically running a five-star meal service for the feline underdogs (or should we say undercats?). Our customized nutrition plans cater to the pickiest, quirkiest, and most medically complex street cats out there. Whether it’s a special diet for a sensitive tummy, a high-protein feast for a scrappy senior, or a gourmet spread for a cat who thinks they’re royalty, we make sure every whiskered diner gets exactly what they need to stay healthy, strong, and ready to rule their turf!

TNVR

Our TNVR (Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return) program is basically the ultimate street cat makeover—minus the reality TV drama. We humanely trap our feline friends, give them a quick health check, a snazzy little ear tip, and make sure they can’t start a surprise kitten boom before sending them back to their stomping grounds. It’s our way of keeping the stray cat population in check while making sure these whiskered wanderers stay healthy, happy, and a little less prone to late-night yowling contests. A win-win for both the cats and the neighborhoods they rule!

Street Survivors Seeking Homes

The Catline Up

These savvy survivors have traded alleyways for affection and are ready to charm their way into your heart (and your home). Each feline in this line-up has a story, a personality, and a serious talent for napping. Take a look — your future couch companion might just be staring back at you.

Peeta – Age 6

A Survivor with a Soft Side

20230826_185649~4.jpg

Once a neglected outdoor cat surviving on swampy water and crumbs, Peeta has come a long way — and he’s ready to trade the street life for a soft lap and a steady supply of catnip. This tabby heartthrob (yes, he makes biscuits) is a certified cuddle expert and your go-to guy for cozy nights in.
Peeta is currently living at the rescue on anti-anxiety meds, and while he's doing his best, he’s so ready for a home of his own. He thrives in calm environments and would prefer to be your one-and-only — or join a home with a mellow, respectful fur roommate (slow introductions encouraged!)
If you’re looking for a sweet, soulful companion with street smarts and a huge heart, Peeta might just be your purrfect match. Bonus points if you have a lap and some catnip.

Viola – Age 5

Short Legs. Big Love. Endless Flops.

20230316_104114.jpg

If Viola could write poetry, it would be a sonnet about you. This black-and-white beauty with a heart-shaped nose has perfected the art of the dramatic flop — tilting her head, throwing her tiny legs in the air, and melting into the floor just to win your love (and, let’s be honest, some solid petting time).

Viola is FIV+, but don’t let that stop you — she’s happy, healthy, and full of life. In fact, when she first came to us pregnant, someone suggested she be euthanized. We said absolutely not. And thank goodness, because she has become one of the sweetest cats we’ve ever met.

She’ll cling to you like Velcro, gaze into your soul like she’s found the one, and gently grasp your shirt if you even think about walking away. Yes, she makes biscuits. Yes, she has arthritis (she’s on pain meds for that). And yes, she can get a little spicy when she doesn’t get her way. But we get it — she's just madly in love.

Viola would do best with someone who doesn’t mind a little clinginess and a lot of affection. If you're ready for a cat who gives 110% of her heart (and maybe your lap), Viola is waiting to flop for you.

Primrose – Age 7

Tiny but Mighty (and a World-Class Biscuit Maker)

image000000_20250704_090954~2.jpg

Primrose may be under 8 pounds, but don’t let her size fool you — this little survivor has a warrior’s heart and a gentle soul. Rescued from an abusive, neglectful home, she’s still learning that people can be kind. And once she decides you're one of the good ones? She’ll gift you with lap cuddles, stealthy hair grooming sessions, and the tiniest, most polite squeaks when it's snack o’clock. (Seriously, sometimes she squeaks with her mouth open but no sound comes out. It’s adorable.)

She’s a loyal cat’s cat — playful and social with her feline peers, but not afraid to throw a paw when someone gets pushy. Whether she’s chasing socks, stalking toys with precision, or wrestling her cat buddies like a featherweight champ, Primrose is a playful spirit wrapped in soft tabby-and-white fur.

She’ll need some time and patience to come out of her shell, but when she does, the love she gives is pure magic. If you're looking for a dainty, squeaky, toy-chasing lap cat who picks her people with care — Primrose might just be your girl.

Mikey – Age 8

Your New Best Friend (No, Seriously — He’ll Call You Over)

Mikey Looking Up_edited.jpg

Mikey is an absolute heart-stealer. This fluffy, long-haired tabby with one adorably folded ear (a badge from his street days) has never met a human he didn’t want to be best friends with. Call his name, and he’ll come running — every. single. time. He’s like a little dog in cat form, and people fall for him instantly.

He’s also a special needs sweetheart. Mikey is in stage one kidney failure and has arthritis, which means he needs a special diet and daily pain meds. He also has a condition that affects his ability to fully pass stool, so he gets Miralax twice a day — a little sprinkle mixed into his food does the trick. He’s a creature of habit and will let you know (loudly and clearly) if his care routine isn’t up to his standards.

Despite his medical needs, Mikey is a playful, affectionate, deeply intuitive boy who loves snuggling up in your lap, chatting about his day, or romping with other cats — as long as he’s feeling good. If he’s acting cranky, it’s usually his gentle way of telling you something’s not right.

Mikey would thrive in a home that can meet his needs and shower him with love — because he’ll give it back tenfold. He’s a wise, wobbly little soul with the heart of a lion and the charm of a stand-up comedian.

🏡 Backyard Buddies Wanted

Help a Street Savvy Cat Find Their Forever Yard

Not every cat is cut out for indoor life — and that’s okay! Some of our feline friends are happiest outside, with the wind in their whiskers and the freedom to roam. These outdoor-savvy cats have made our back porch their safe haven, but it's time for them to find new stomping grounds. Why? Because our little cat cul-de-sac is full, and there are still many other street cats out there who need food, medical care, and a spot to land.

By adopting an outdoor-only cat, you’re not just giving them a safe territory — you’re creating space for us to help the next one in need. If you’ve got a yard, a shed, a barn, or just a big heart and a quiet corner, you could be the hero these street-smart cats are waiting for.

🧡 Jan – The Chill Tree-Climber (With Big Indoor Feelings)

20240624_192653.jpg

Age: 3 years
Weight: 11 lbs (a big, handsome boy for an outdoor cat!)
Coloring: Orange Tabby Tux

Jan is basically the golden retriever of outdoor cats — charming, cuddly (on his terms), and a pro at making himself at home. He’ll greet you with a leg rub, especially when food is involved, and his favorite hobbies include climbing trees and napping in hilariously dramatic positions.

While he can use a litter box when brought inside for storms, it’s not his vibe — even with sedatives, being indoors stresses him out. That’s why he’s looking for a safe, outdoor home where he can thrive in his natural element. Jan would be a wonderful backyard companion for someone with a big heart and a little space to share.

🍽️ David – The Foodie Socialite with Zero Litter Box Etiquette

20250706_180446_edited_edited.jpg

Age: 2 years
Weight: 10 lbs
Coloring: Orange Tabby

David is an easygoing, affectionate guy who gets along with everyone — humans, cats, even the occasional visitor. He’s into pets, fine with being scooped up, and will gladly hang out near you… just not in your lap.

Honestly, David checks every box for an ideal indoor cat — except one: he has absolutely zero interest in using a litter box. We've tried. He’s tried. It’s just not happening. So he’s looking for a forever outdoor setup where his sparkling personality can shine and his paws stay firmly outside. Bonus: you’ll never forget mealtimes with David around — he won’t let you.

Foster Homes Needed for Shy Street Cats

These street-savvy kitties just need a little extra time (and love) to bloom.

Not every cat starts out as a lap-warmer or biscuit-maker. Some need a soft landing — a patient, cat-loving foster human who can help them learn that the indoors is safe and snuggles aren’t so scary. These cats aren’t quite ready for adoption, but with your help, they could be. Whether they're a little shy, semi-feral, or just need to learn how to trust, fostering gives them a second chance at a forever home — and gives you the rare privilege of watching a transformation unfold.

 Meet Stacey – The Almost-Cuddler

20230730_182704.jpg

Stacey is a 5-year-old torbie with a heart full of potential and a soft spot for her fellow felines. She’s the kind of girl who brushes up against her cat friends and can be won over with snacks (a true foodie). Once she trusts you, she’ll reward your patience with sweet headbutts and slow-blink affection. She even enjoys gentle pets — but only if you move like molasses and approach with one hand.

She's not a fan of being picked up (understatement), so meds and carriers are a bit of a dance — best tackled by a tag team. Her weakened sense of smell from past trauma makes outdoor colony life unsafe for her, so she’s counting on us to help her find a calm, cozy home where she can blossom into the lap cat we know she could be. With fewer cats and a little time, Stacey could go from “look, don’t touch” to “can I sit on you forever?”

Meet AOC – Our Tiny Porch Panther in Training

20230729_100822.jpg

AOC is a dainty little tuxedo (just under 7 lbs!) with a big name and an even bigger heart waiting to be unlocked. At 5 years old, she’s spent most of her life as an outdoor sweetheart — lounging on our back porch, weathering storms with grace, and politely using the litter box whenever she comes inside for hurricanes or cold snaps (yes, she’s that good).

This soft-spoken girl is all peace and no drama. If another cat gets sassy, AOC will quietly retreat — sometimes for days or even weeks. That’s why we’d love to get her into a calm, loving foster home where she doesn’t have to keep looking over her shoulder. Her idea of fun? Chasing her tail like a kitten. Her reaction to pets? She freezes like a deer in headlights — never swats, never hisses, just quietly unsure.

With a little patience and a peaceful space, AOC is ready to write her next chapter indoors. Could your home be her soft landing?

Meet Barry – The Cat Who Walks (and Talks!) Among Us

20250316_093233_edited.jpg

Barry is a sleek all-gray gentleman (with a cute little white locket!) who’s currently living that outdoor life—but make no mistake, this 2-year-old is determined to be an indoor cat. He runs inside at every opportunity, curls up on pillows like he pays rent, and keeps up with the family dog on long walks like he’s part of the squad (yes, panting and all).

He’s a lover—rubbing against legs, chatting up a storm, even letting you pick him up. But he's also a bit of a wildcard. Barry sometimes gets overstimulated and swats with claws out, no warning unless you know what to look for. That’s why he needs a cat-savvy foster who can read his signals and give him the space (and training) he needs to settle into home life.

He’s mostly chill with other cats but can get a little territorial. And the litter box? Still a work in progress—but he’s trying, we swear.

Got experience, patience, and a pillow to spare? Barry’s ready to turn in his outdoor badge and try life indoors—with your help.
